SnagWord privacy policy
Last updated: 8 Oct 2026
SnagWord is a browser extension for saving English vocabulary while you read and reviewing it with spaced repetition. It is built to work without collecting anything about you. It is made by Joseph Michael Mercurio III, who also runs The Pollionian; this policy covers the extension only. The website has its own privacy policy.
What SnagWord stores
When you save a word, SnagWord stores the word, the sentence it appeared in, the page's title and web address, any definition you write, and your review history for that word. It also stores your settings, such as whether the quiz appears on new tabs.
All of this is kept only in your browser's local extension storage, on your own device.
What SnagWord does not do
- It does not send any data to the developer or to any server. It makes no network requests.
- It has no accounts, analytics, advertising, or tracking.
- It does not read web pages in the background. It reads the current page only at the moment you save a word, and only to capture the highlighted word and its sentence.
- It does not sell or share data, because it never has any.
Your control
You can delete any saved word from the Library. Back up creates a file on your computer that only you control. Removing the extension deletes all of its stored data.
Dictionary
Definitions come from WordNet 3.1 (Princeton University), bundled inside the extension so lookups happen offline.
