SnagWord

Save words you don't know while reading, with the sentence you found them in, and review them with spaced repetition.

Free. No account, no tracking, nothing sent anywhere. Privacy policy.

SnagWord is for people who read and keep meeting words they half-know. Snag the word, keep the sentence, and learn it for good.

Save a word in one step. Highlight it, then right-click → Save to SnagWord, or press Alt+Shift+A. SnagWord saves the word, the sentence it appeared in, and a link back to the article. The definition comes from a built-in dictionary, so there's nothing to type and nothing to look up.

Review in context. Each review shows the word in the sentence where you found it and asks which meaning fits, out of four. Wrong answers are drawn from your other saved words when possible, so you also learn to tell your words apart. Misses come back sooner, and words you know well space out further. Scheduling uses FSRS, the open-source algorithm behind modern Anki.

Review without deciding to. Optionally, each new tab shows one word that's due. Answer it or just start typing in the address bar as usual.

Your list, your way. Search your words, choose which meaning to be quizzed on, write your own definitions, and export to Anki or back up to a file.

Private by design. Everything stays in your browser. SnagWord has no account, makes no network requests, and collects nothing. It reads a page only at the moment you save a word.
